Acura is dedicated to building autos that personify luxury and safety!

Overview

A strong track record of safety

Acura believes driving a luxury car should be a highly enjoyable experience. And while we tend to dwell on the more exhilarating aspects of our vehicles, we consider your safety a top priority.

Safety has been top of mind with Acura engineers since day one, In 1987, less than a year after the company's debut, an airbag was offered in the Legend Coupe—11 years before it was mandatory. Just two years later, airbags were standard on all Legend models. Acura also developed a proprietary Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that first appeared on the 1988 Legend and soon graced our other models. Thus, a legion of new Acura safety technologies was introduced that helped define the brand. Over the years, we've added many advanced safety technologies to the list, and the vast majority of them are now standard on every model.

Acura's history of safety innovation has not gone unnoticed by the experts. In 2009, Acura was the first car company to have every one of its models receive a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The same year, Acura was also the first and only luxury brand to receive 5-Star crash safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)* for all of its models pursuant to NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program's (NCAP) front and side impact crash tests. While the NHTSA NCAP rating system has changed for 2011, Acura's dedication to safety has not.

Beyond vehicle safety, Acura also understands the importance of being an attentive driver. We have continually developed and offered new convenience features such as the Voice Recognition System, Bluetooth®11 HandsFreeLink®, and the new blind spot information system, which are designed to either increase driver awareness or reduce driver distraction.
