Acura to Adopt ZF 9-Speed Automatic by 2014?

Zf_615_2012_03_23_01
While we’re patiently waiting for the arrival of the “Earth Dreams” CVT and 7-speed dual clutch transmissions, Automobile Magazine has suggested that Acura may utilize a 9-Speed Automatic developed by German supplier ZF by 2014.

An early press release from Honda had the new Earth Dreams electric SH-AWD system paired with Honda’s 7-speed dual clutch, but it still hasn’t been confirmed which models will receive the mentioned combination. According to the article, the next generation TL expected at the end of 2013 may be the first Acura to use the ZF “9HP” transmission.

Acura NSX Convertible revealed in patent drawings?

14nsx-spider-epo-01-opt
Temple of VTEC has been tipped off to what is purported to be a patent filing for an Acura NSX Convertible. And as you can see from the photo above, that's about all we have to go on.

Is this in fact a droptop version of Honda's supercar? Or is it nothing more than Honda's due diligence to protect its intellectual property rights? Either way, it's got the NSX fans in a tizzy trying to figure out what exactly it means, when they can (dream about) buying one, how much they'll (never be able to) pay and why the original NSX is better/worse than the new one.

Acura TSX Wagon Campaign Gets Extra Mileage with Rhapsody's Field Trip! Campaign

20120202172118enprnprn-rhapsody-logo-1006-1y-1328203278mr
Rhapsody and Acura teamed up to put the number-one premium subscription music service's South by Southwest editorial coverage (http://www.rhapsody.com/blog/acura) into overdrive.  The innovative video campaign, "From Silver Lake to Austin" centered around a rock 'n roll road trip and delivered millions of ad impressions, with viewers spending more than five minutes engaging with the Acura brand.

The "From Silver Lake to Austin Field Trip" campaign took Rhapsody editors in an Acura TSX from Silver Lake to the 2011 South by Southwest music festival, where they interviewed bands and visited legendary rock 'n roll locales. The series starts in LA, where Rhapsody visits with Smashing Pumpkins in Silver Lake, and ends with G. Love and others in Austin, with stops in-between, including the hotel room in Joshua Tree where Gram Parsons spent his final moments, Las Vegas with Panic! at the Disco and aboard a sky tram in New Mexico with BrokeNCYDE. All videos from the campaign can be viewed at: http://www.rhapsody.com/blog/acura.>

Original editorial content has been a cornerstone of the Rhapsody experience.  For the past decade, Rhapsody has employed a diverse staff of renowned music journalists who guide Rhapsody members through its 14-million song catalog spanning nearly 600 genres with features, videos and playlists, including sponsored content.

"We work closely with our editors and advertisers to create sponsored content that amplifies the advertiser's brand while upholding the editorial integrity Rhapsody has built," said Gina Perino, director, advertising sales and operations, Rhapsody. "As a result, brands benefit from being tightly integrated into the content, and Rhapsody members get a richer editorial experience that is surrounded in music to make an even deeper emotional connection between our members and advertisers."

  • 20 percent of visitors to the program viewed a Field Trip segment to completion

"The campaign with Rhapsody was compelling because it associated the stylish and sporty Acura TSX Sport Wagon with entertaining, music-centric content," said Mark Ortiz, national interactive marketing manager at Acura. "The Rhapsody program thoughtfully integrated the fun videos into the media rather than interrupting the music or video."

With more than one million members, Rhapsody is the largest premium on-demand music service in the United States. The Rhapsody service is available on more than 70 consumer electronic devices, including all smartphone platforms; more than any service of its kind.  Rhapsody subscribers also enjoy original editorial content from its staff of the most renowned music writers anywhere, including reviews, features, playlists and more than 200 programmed radio stations.

About RhapsodyThe Rhapsody® digital music service (www.rhapsody.com) gives subscribers unlimited on-demand access to more than 14 million songs, whether they're listening on a PC, laptop, Internet connected home stereo or TV, MP3 player or mobile phone. Rhapsody allows subscribers to access their music through more touch-points than any other digital music service, including mobile phones from Verizon Wireless and MetroPCS, through Rhapsody applications on the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, RIM BlackBerry and Android mobile platforms as well as through devices from Vizio, SanDisk, HP, Sonos and Philips.  Rhapsody is headquartered in Seattle, with offices in Frankfurt, London, Luxemburg, York and San Francisco. Snow Seeker: Follow an epic roadtrip through the Canadian Rockies with the 2012 Acura ZDX

Zdx_629_2012_03_02_01
This isn’t your average road trip. For me, a snowboarder for nearly 10 years, it’s something I’ve always dreamed of doing. A 10-day tour of the Canadian Rockies, destination: epic powder. An adventure that will take us from Alberta’s capital city Edmonton, down through the continental divide and into interior British Columbia where we’ll make our way to our final ski destination, Whistler. Along the way we’ll get a chance to experience some of the best ski resorts Western Canada has to offer: Marmot Basin, Lake Louise, Revelstoke, Whitewater, Red Mountain and Whistler Blackcomb.

Every road trip requires a vehicle, and when we’re in the midst of winter with roughly 2000 kms of potentially hazardous road to travel, the vehicle of choice will have to meet certain criteria. Reliability and all-wheel drive are absolute necessities. Some extra ground clearance and cargo space would definitely be helpful. And finally a comfortable cabin for those long grueling hours on the road.

Enter the 2012 ZDX, a unique crossover with luxury, utility, performance and Acura’s reputation for reliability. With its powerful 300-hp V-6 engine, Super Handling All-Wheel Drive and a never-ending list of features, the ZDX is the perfect candidate for our Rocky Mountain Road Tour. Follow our review as we take the ZDX for the next 10-days through scenic drives as well as harsh winter conditions on our quest for fresh snow and glorious riding.

Paragon Acura - (5) Star Review on Yelp

  • I just leased a car from Paragon Acura and the whole experience was wonderful.  My Sales person Yizzel was polite, professional and very knowledgeable of the vehicle and all its features.  She was also very effective and helpful to completing the process.  I also want to mention that the other sales staff  like Jose, Wendy and Robbie were very nice and helpful while Yizzel was busy with getting all the paperwork done.  Jean the finance manager was also amazing; he got me a good price and was an absolute pleasure to work with.   Thank you all for a great experience. -Duarte L.

2013 Acura ILX: Acura's new entry-level player

2013-acura-ilx-side
Acura calls the styling of the ILX concept debuting at the 2012 Detroit auto show "Arrow Fuse" dynamics and, while the concept is Civic-based, its lines provide a premium appearance absent in Civic. The ILX was created for Generation Y buyers, the first group in U.S. history on course to earn less than their parents. Acura expects to accommodate this diminished earning power with a base price well below $30,000. For comparison, the 2012 Buick Verano starts at $23,470 and the 2012 TSX at $30,695. Acura foresees moving about 40,000 units per year, and hopes to retain these younger customers and move them up within the Acura family.

"First-time luxury buyers place the highest value on exterior styling, affordability, and environmental issues, and that's a virtual definition of what we have created with the new Acura ILX," said Jon Ikeda, head of the Acura Design Studio. "The strategy behind this new model is to position ILX as the first opportunity for many young buyers to enter the luxury market."

To satisfy Gen Y, ILX will have tech features like hard-drive music storage, Pandora Internet radio, smart entry keyless access with push-button start, and text-to-voice SMS capability. The volume powertrain will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and automatic transmission. Honda's familiar 1.5-liter IMA will make ILX Acura's first hybrid offering, while the Civic Si's 2.4-liter inline-four and six-speed manual should satisfy enthusiasts. It'll be on sale by spring 2012.
